This paper tackles the relationship between the incidence of political participation of the youth living in the geographical area of Valle del Cauca Department and the development and implementation of environmental policies in the Colombian context. The paper covers two aspects. On the one hand, an analysis of some processes of youth political participation on environmental public policies at a local, regional and national level is presented. On the other hand, some dilemmas and challenges are discussed regarding youth participation in development of environmental public policies. The paper concludes by identifying some proposals that point out the political impact that young people, who use media and alternative communication tools, may have on promoting environmental education, and actions for environmental conservation and protection in the region, both seen from a youth-sensitivity.
