Analysis of shoreline variation using the cassie tool: a case study in the barra da lagoa - Mozambique beach arc in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil
Main Article Content
The quantification of shoreline variation is of fundamental importance for the study of the dynamic processes that shape the land-sea interface. Recently, the Coastal Analysis via Satellite Imagery Engine (CASSIE) tool was developed in Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform for the automatic quantification of shoreline variation based on multispectral images from the Landsat and Copernicus space programs. The present work aims to present the methodological procedures involved in the use of the CASSIE tool to provide technical support to the Secretariat for Coordination and Governance of the Union’s Patrimony of the Ministry of Economy of Brazil in the management of areas called marine lands and their additions. In the case study, the Barra da Lagoa - Moçambique Beach Arc (BMBA) presents in the period from 2016 to 2022 a predominance of accretion zones with an average value of 2.565 m/year for the linear regression rates (LRR), and less frequently stability zones with 0.16 m/year. The event-scale (days and years) shoreline change rate for the BMBA was obtained systematically, quickly and consistently using the CASSIE tool.
