What do Basic Competence Standards of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) propose to guide cultural formation?
Main Article Content
This article reports the results of a documentary research, in which the definition of cultural formation was elaborated and tracked down in the Basic Competence Standards (MEN, 2006) from four thematic cores that structured this definition.
The findings evidence a proposal of cultural formation that stays in the basic levels –thematic cores 1 and 2– does not go beyond to higher levels –thematic cores 3 and 4– emphasizes on the appearance of culture; does not provide continuity in the learning process; is prescriptive and limited concerning the writing of the standards; and evidences a tendency to a generalized application.
