This article presents some theoretical and practical reflections about the composition process of academic texts at the college level. From a didactic perspective, writing is conceived as a process in which peer revision plays an important role in academic writing. The article is divided in three parts. The first one is a review of some studies on the teaching of writing in general from a discourse and interactive perspective and the teaching of Spanish writing at the Universidad del Valle in particular, which serves as a framework of writing as a process. Finally, the evaluation of some students’ experiences when writing short academic texts is made. The students believe that peer revision is a useful strategy to develop college academic writing abilities, especially when composing short articles.
