This presentation reviews the main references on school textbook research. To that end, we examine pioneer studies and the analytic frameworks produced from three classic approaches: the ideological research focusing on content analysis, the studies on teaching methodology, and the examinations on the material conditions of the book and the publishing market. In addition, we review the most important studies from the perspective of Discourse Analysis, present the main research trends in Argentina and describe the areas still unexplored.
