This article presents the partial results of a study whose main purpose was to explore the conceptions and pedagogical practices regarding the cultural competence in the basic language courses in the undergraduate degree in foreign language teaching at the Universidad de Antioquia. We conducted qualitative analysis of the data collected by questionnaires, class observations and legal documents. The results showed that teachers have a static view of culture and the different practices they use to work on the cultural component. We also observed the need to develop teacher educators' awareness of inter and multicultural education.
