This article reviews some of the female characters in Colombian cinema produced during the 1980s. Adressing issues related to the violence of the first half of the twentieth Century, feature films considered for research establish a paradigm of representation in which the woman is portrayed because of her status as a political and revolutionary subject, and moving away from the stereotype of the woman relegated to the domestic sphere, which was reaffirmed for decades by meanstream cinema.
