In this paper some theoretical elements are presented which establish theinterpretative dimension as part of the epistemological framework whichenables us to understand the situation of tension and conflict between thevision of justice of the ruling government and the administration of justicedesigned and carried out by Colombian ethnic groups. Subsequently threeparticular aspects of the interpretative dimension are reconstructed to show that this situation of tension and conflict may be understood from outsidethe alternative of objectivity and subjectivity established by the classicconcept of knowledge. The conclusion is reached that the interpretativedimension enables us to understand and recognize that there is a place forsymbolic and cultural multiplicity. It is a place that requires citizens who arewilling to take risks and continually remove the mentalities which are used insocial interaction. This dimension underlines the sociable unsociability ofthe human being and assumes that the human being becomes sure of hisidentity through dialogical relationships and a participative attitude.
