This article makes an analytical proposal in order to understand social intervention in general and intervention in social terms in particular, as carried out from the discipline-profession of Social Work. Based on Bourdieu‟s spatial metaphor of the field, this text makes a preliminary exercise of identification of the opposing forces that converge in social intervention, and raises the importance of making these forces visible from each experience of intervention. Subsequently, in the form of challenges and reflections from Social Work, it performs a disciplinary reflection considering the analytical proposal of the field as a powerful tool in the systematization of experiences. In conclusion, the task of Social Work will be to unveil the game installed in the actions undertaken from the interventions.
