Main Article Content
Ethnobotany is responsible for studying the relationship between cultures and plant environment, from a historical and regional perspective. Ethnobotany studies the use and management approaches that each community gives the plants. The main objective of this study was to identify the medicinal plants used in the village of Siberia, Campo Alegre, Cauca in the traditional treatment of diseases. In total 24 species of plants traditionally used for medicinal purposes were reported; of these, nine are used in another region of Colombia; in seven species there are no reported studies assessing biological activity, and in 14 species there are reports of biological activities different from those reported by informants. Only three species demonstrated biological activity equivalent to the reported traditional use and therefore generate an opportunity to perform phytochemical and pharmacological studies for verifi cation of biological activity
